Greeting fellow Internationalists !
Having come into the possession of some NRL merchandise ( backpacks / footballs) I have decided to donate the small package of gear to teams from my old primary school and junior club.
However I thought I might take the opportunity to work on some of the younger generations knowledge of the past, present and future of the International aspect of our game.
So Im thinking of putting together a questionnaire for the kids to complete and present the gear to the winning teams from both the school and club.
Age group would be 10 - 13 year olds. (So teams would be U/10; etc and may have two or more in that aged group)
In my mind the questions would be related to historical, geographical, biographical, administrative and statistical facts all of an international flavour. The odd quirky question or little known fact wouldnt hurt I suppose. Thinking 20 questions.
As an advocate of the games international arena, the objective of my idea is to :
à Raise awareness of the games International past, present and future
à Educate the youngsters on the International greats ( players or characters) of the game from different eras and nations.
à Pique their interest in the developing countries and hopefully create an international mindset of the game
à Encourage them to do their own research and find their level of interest in the International game ( and in particular the link their location Toowoomba has to this subject)
à Encourage engagement with their parents / teachers/ coaches with this global view and hopefully nurture a mutual interest in the subject matter.
So folks Im open to any ideas on questions you may think are suitable for the age group and also any potential problems / obstacles I could encounter or should investigate. Any alternate ways to increase the awareness also welcomed.
Who knows the future RLIF President of 2055 may one day reflect on how is interest in the wider international aspects of RL commenced ! And this could be the catalyst ! (He will be speaking to a corporate crowd gathered in Toronto prior to the Canada v Ukraine Test series ! :D )
