With the expected introduction of a limited interchange bench from next year it would seem that the end of the era of dinosaurs is coming to an end. It would appear to be suicidal to run packs out the size of the Bulldogs, Rabbits, Rooster and Warriors next year because they will get slaughtered for speed in the final 20 minutes.
And hence the rise of the prototype forward from next year. He stands at around 6”2-3 and weighs around 102-105 kg’s. It probably looks a lot like our pack now I come to think of it!
Players like Frizzel, De-Belin, Mathews, Thompson, Creagh, Cooper etc will be invaluable. They are mobile, hit hard in defence, have good line speed and play at least 60 minutes per game.
The game last night highlighted two the smaller and more mobile packs going at hit with tremendous line speed fop 80 minutes
So it will be “see you later” for guys like George Rose, Frank Pritchard, Tony Williams, Sam Kasiano etc.
It may take a year or two to wash through the system but get your kids out to the grounds this year to see those “XXXXL” forwards; because they will soon be a thing of the past!
